Low Cholesterol Diet
There are certainly many factors that contribute to maintaining a healthy lifestyle but one of the most
important is your cholesterol. One of the ways to keep your cholesterol in check is to follow a low
cholesterol diet.
A low cholesterol diet is an important part to living a healthy and active life. If you are
not on a low cholesterol diet to begin with, your doctor may require that you follow a low cholesterol
diet. A low cholesterol diet should mean more then just eating healthy. A low cholesterol
diet should also consist of getting suficient exercise.
Food
A low cholesterol diet should include foods that are high in vitamins and fiber, and low in
fat. You should note, however that your diet would not totally exclude fat because there
are "healthy" fats, such as in avocados, that are beneficial. Those healthy fats can
be beneficial because approximately one third of the fats that you consume must be used to digest and excrete
properly. Therefore, since your body holds onto a third of all fats consumed, then it is recommended you
eat healthy fats to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
Exercise
As mentioned previously, an exercise routine can be of great help to a low cholesterol diet. Before beginning
any diet, whether it be on a nutrition level, exercise level, or both, it is best to talk to your primary care
physician. Your doctor can give you the proper foods to consume as well as any exercise that you may need to
be doing or perhaps even change.
Family History
Having a family history of high cholesterol levels can add to the odds against you of having a healthy
cholesterol count. Cutting out smoking and alcohol can assist you in your low cholesterol diet. A low
cholesterol diet can prevent clogging of the arteries from a build up of plaque. It has even been noted in
individuals that change from a high cholesterol diet to a low cholesterol diet can greatly decrease your risk for a
clot, heart attack and stroke.
Family Support
Going on a low cholesterol diet is certainly not something to be taken lightly. A low cholesterol diet is
a lifestyle change, not only for you, but perhaps your entire family. Having others to support you while on a
low cholesterol diet can be beneficial, as you have a support team to be by your side every step of the way.
Low cholesterol diets are not only healthy, but can be a life changing experience for anyone.
